About the project

DR2 Residence is a sculptural single-family home located in the hills surrounding Medellín, combining contemporary curves with warm natural materials to create a serene, nature-integrated retreat. Completed in 2021

for a private client, the project embraces Medellín’s lush topography and temperate climate, translating them into a dwelling that feels elevated, fluid, and deeply connected to the landscape.

The architectural form is defined by a sweeping curved upper volume supported by slender columns, creating shaded terraces, elevated views, and a floating effect above the terrain. Wooden vertical louvers wrap the

main façade, providing privacy, solar control, and a soft interplay of shadows throughout the day .

The lower level opens fully to the outdoors, merging with an infinity-edge pool and a sequence of garden platforms. A rooftop garden integrates vegetation into the architecture, enhancing thermal comfort and blending

the residence seamlessly into its surroundings.

DR2 Residence reflects DR22’s commitment to expressive geometry, environmental sensitivity, and technical precision through BIM-based design workflows.

Step by step project

The design began with an in-depth study of the sloped site, identifying natural platforms and optimizing views toward the valley . DR22 developed a layout that separates private and social zones while maintaining open

visual connections and maximizing natural ventilation.

Through BIM coordination, the team refined every curved structural element, glazing line, and shading system to ensure feasibility and construction clarity . Material choices highlight natural textures such as wood, stone,

and concrete, blending with the landscape’s palette while ensuring long-term durability .

The landscape design integrates terraces, native planting, and water features that reinforce the home’s connection to the environment, creating a balanced composition between architecture and nature.
