Brasas Restaurant is a refined dining destination located in the heart of the historic El Prado District in Barranquilla, Colombia. Set within a restored heritage building, the project celebrates the neighborhood’s
architectural legacy while introducing contemporary craftsmanship and hospitality design.
The interior concept blends classic elegance with warm materiality: exposed brick arches, patterned black-and-white flooring, wood-paneled ceilings, and subtle golden accents. Large arched windows visually connect the
interior with a lush courtyard, blurring boundaries and creating a relaxed, tropical ambiance.
The design honors the historic character of the structure while elevating it through curated lighting, modern furniture, and updated spatial flow. Natural textures, handcrafted elements, and a palette inspired by Caribbean
heritage define the atmosphere, making Brasas both inviting and timeless.
The result is a space that respects history yet feels fresh, sophisticated, and rooted in local culture.
The project began with a careful study of the existing historic envelope, identifying preservation priorities and architectural elements worth highlighting. DR22 developed a design that restored original arches, enhanced
the spatial rhythm, and introduced new features without compromising authenticity .
Through BIM coordination, every interior component—from ceiling coffers to built-in cabinetry—was modeled to achieve precise execution within the constraints of the historic structure. The introduction of natural
greenery and updated lighting reinforces the cozy yet elegant dining experience.
The courtyard was transformed into an active extension of the dining room, offering a transitional space that connects guests with nature and the historic character of El Prado.
